Windrider began its life as the home studio project of seventeen year old Elliot Vernon in 2008. After a number of small demos and individual songs, Windrider eventually found its own sound and the debut EP was released in April 2009. Beherit is a black metal band from Finland (Rovaniemi, Lapland). The band was formed in 1989 by Nuclear Holocausto (Marko Laiho), Sodomatic Slaughter (Jari Pirinen) and Demon Fornication, with the purpose of performing “the most primitive, savage, hell-obsessed black metal imaginable”. “Beherit” is the Syriac word for Satan. Through the uncommercial nature of their music, visuals and live performances, the band quickly attracted a cult following. Besides the “raw” sound, the band’s music is noted for its avant-garde side and emphasis on atmosphere. Beherit are now regarded as a pioneer in their genre.

Inquisition (US) is a black metal band based in Seattle, Washington with origins in Colombia where the founder, Dagon, was living at the time. The band was fully realized in 1996 when Dagon left Colombia for the US and met Incubus who joined on drums. This line-up has remained stable for more than ten years. Their sound involves the combination of old school thrash metal, major guitar progressions with the depth and darkness of black metal’s chaotic minor guitar progressions. Dagon’s voice is very monotonous and chant like and does not sound like any voice typically used in black metal. Dagon has expressed that his vocal style is not meant to reflect that of a human, but rather that of an unseen entity in demonic form.

Vocalist Jun-His' real name is Juho Vanhanen. He is a former member of Finnish surrealistic rock band Kuolleet Intiaanit (2000 - 2007), and Oranssi Pazuzu are sometimes described as a black metal version of Kuolleet Intiaanit.

The band's motto is "Oranssi Pazuzu makes music that invites all the arsonists and smokers to hold hands."

Cork, Ireland’s Altar of Plagues was formed in 2006. Terms that are most frequently used to describe their sound include black metal, ambient and progressive or post metal, though it seems no one description can sum up the acts massive sound. The act themselves consider black metal to be the genre to which they are most attached, but on the contrary they have also been quoted to take influence from acts as diverse as Emperor, Björk and Arvo Pärt.

Dimmu Borgir is a symphonic black metal band from Norway. “Dimmu Borgir” means “Dark Cities” or “Dark Fortresses” in Icelandic and Old Norse. The name is derived from a volcanic formation in Iceland, Dimmuborgir. Dimmu Borgir started as a melodic black metal band in 1993. Formed by Shagrath, Silenoz, and Tjodalv, the band released an EP in 1994 entitled Inn i evighetens mørke (“Into the Darkness of Eternity” in English).

Satyricon is an influential norwegian black metal band, whose line-up over the years has constantly revolved around a stable core of multi-instrumentalist Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven and drum powerhouse Kjetil Vidar “Frost” Haraldstad. Satyricon was founded in Oslo, Norway in 1991 by Czral (Carl-Michael Eide, of Ved Buens Ende, Ulver and Virus) and Wargod. Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven (also in Thorns, Storm and Wongraven) took over lead vocals in 1991.

Metsatöll, an Estonian folk metal band, was formed in 1999 in Tallinn by Markus Teeäär (vocals), Silver “Factor” Rattasepp (drums) and Andrus Tins (bass), playing epic heavy metal with a great influence from ancient Estonian folklore. The debut album called “Terast mis hangund me hinge” (Steel Frozen in Our Souls) was released at that time.

Torchbearer is what many would call an “all-star” metal band originating from Sweden. Torchbearer plays melodic death metal with thrash and black metal influences - all in their own trademark style. Formerly known as Dolmen, which evolved via Azathoth, Eternus and Necrotic into Absu in 1990. Calling themselves "Mythological Occult Metal, "Absu" in Sumerian mythology refers to a subterranean ocean. The band draws on Sumerian, Celtic and other ancient mythologies, supervised by Proscriptor.
